Sonic in SA2 is also very agile, too agile in fact, because he turns around in any direction way too fast completely ignoring momentum.

Plus you are always regulated and do not fall off map of you go too fast. Generations has a very strict grinding, but sideways movement is great, and transferring b/w rails not even sideways is very good due to lock on mechanic. But they have a great crouch mechanism which leads to insane speeds, which isn't regulated sometimes leading you to fall off maps. Generations on the other hand has smooth tunnels where moving sideways isn't jerky.Īlso SA2 rails suck, you can't honing attack on them, you cannot switch b/w without them bugging out with a 50% chance, and the vertical rails in final level of Hero story are plain horror. This maybe due to older hardware but it is unsightly now. SA2 tubes are the worst, they are not tubes but a 3D hexagon/octagon, with sonic transitioning b/w faces of the cylinder making movement very jerky in them. This doesn't mean boost gameplay isn't challenging, he challenge is shifted towards speed running and finding the optimal route rather than completing the stage. Sonic team has regulated generations a lot, with a level divided in sections where sonics base properties are altered so he plays like they want him to be.

And the little handling they have is not constant and changes according to the part of the level you are. Because boost games don't really have handling.
